"Hibernate: A Developer's Notebook" by James Elliott (O'Reilly)

This is the book to use to get up to speed with O/R mapping using Hibernate. Nothing is wasted; the walk thoughs are brief but thorough and after years of using JDBC and EJB’s(pre-3.0), it was a refreshing way of accessing the persistence layer. If you’re like me and don’t have an abundance of free time or the desire to wade through hundreds of pages of technical fluff to get up and running with a new tool, then you’ll love this book. Although slightly dated, I would still recommend this book to anyone interested in an alternative to JDBC.
