"Real World Web Services" by Will Iverson (O'Reilly)
This book starts with a brief overview of HTTP request and responses, data scrapping, RPC technology and than web services. This book becomes exciting when the author offers projects that connect to live data sources including Amazon, Google, FedEx, and eBay. Each project is an application that you use and experiment with by referencing the examples that the book gives at the companion web site. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain some real world experience using Web Services, SOAP and XML on these active Websites.
